Project PEAR DoSomething Club: "Tickled Pink for Hygiene" Campaign
(October 1st-November 15th, 2012)
Project PEAR (PrimaDonna’s Empowered to Achieve Results) is trying to protect the girls of Wayne County from the dangers of premarital sex and early pregnancy through a county-wide campaign entitled,"Tickled Pink for Hygiene". We want to make our girls (and parents) aware of the high teen pregnancy rates in our county and encourage them to wait, which is the only fool-proof method to prevent unwanted pregnancies and STD's. North Carolina is number 14 in the US for the highest teen pregnancy rates and our county, Wayne, is number 21. We have got to do better! Knowledge is truly powerful, so I feel that the more informed our girls are about this issue, the harder they will try to abstain until they are mentally, physically and emotionally ready to engage in sexual activity.
This project will consist of several events including Hygiene Drop-Off sites, a Tea Party for Girls, Afterschool Girls Circle Discussions, Service-Learning weekend events, and the grand finale being a "Strut for Abstinence" Fashion Show in December.
